Below is my final set of photography work as a student. These last few months as a college student have been so bitter-sweet, I can’t make up my mind if I’m excited or sad about graduation. I guess both.
This project is a series of self portraits exploring who I am, both as an American and as an Iranian, through photographs. It has always been a struggle for me to explain myself, who I truly am, and how I should or shouldn’t act in given situations. I feel that maybe these photographs will answer some questions. Questions people might have, or even questions I have for myself as a person who has lived with two cultures her whole life. Sometimes I feel confused, proud, and sometimes even awkward about how to simply deal with the differences of the two parts that make me.
In each image I’ve incorporated myself twice, once as the Iranian and once as the American. In some of my images I see conflict and in some I see peace and calm with my two selves. This exploration is a growing one and much more work will follow this blog post.
I hope you enjoy, and please feel free to comment. I always enjoy your feedback.

Wonderful work.
My only comment is: being an American, I did not fully understand the cultural sub-text in a couple of the photos.
In your opinion which life style is better?
awesome i enjoyed so much tnx for sharing.
I really enjoyed
In my view the best idea is seventh picture(one with ring)and the best design is second one.
Gook luck
What I love in these images is the expression of self-consistency which merges the 2 selves in each picture and liberates her (you) from geographical/cultural context.
Well done….infact reaally a good job…
perfect pics.and you have to decide which one of these culture you Belonging
I do not want to criticize you .

Really genius, I love the photos. The first picture say everything!
I wonder how you took the photos? Both of you in the same photo? Does not seem to be photoshop? Seems that you have a tween, but I don’t beleive that either.

Awesome work.
what does it mean rings in middle finger and ring finger? and baba figer
didn’t understand? can you explain?
Creative pics. It seems the only problem for you to know better urself is finding the differences between the religions of these two different cultures. In ur pics also the only difference is for Hejab, but be sure both beautiful girls in ur pics, with any nationality, culture and religion can enjoy the life!

Great gob!!!! I live in the neighbor country of Iran and I know how women struggle for their own rights. I love the way how you show two sides of your life. I wish you a lot of success in your photography!!!!
I love your work ! This series makes me feel a lot of things.

serie khobi vali shayad kami jahani tar matrah mikardid behtar bud….
I like the photo series but maybe some non iranian people don’t get whats going on here…
cool series anyway….
One point, A person under the two cultures, one is American, but the other one is not Iranian, it is Tazi (i.e., Arabian Culture). Iranian have Persian culture, which is much more richer than even of American.
as Iranan say: ey val axhatoon kheyli ghashangan.
Question:
You made a good idea. But let us know which picture is more attractive for men? With or without cover?
The answer is clear. So it depends on girls and women how to be seen in public situations.
I have many other questions and comments, all depends on your reply.
Regards,
Shayan
that was a nice collection. although, I too havce this question in mind that how dod you do it? most of these shots look like a picture taken with you and a twin sister, Im facing having serious trouble digesting that theres only one person, and the rest is photography techniques.
anyways, I liked the collection. most of the pix were about “dressing codes” which of course is one of the biggest items on the difference list, but maybe you can go on with this project, focusing on other items too.
good luck
very very like
Great creativity! Nicely done!
Nice!
Niiiiice
I love your photos specially the second one which is fuuuuuuuull of peace:)
Dear Ma’am,
It is great to have self study, most of people don’t! I guess you need to know more about your Persian character than second one. If you like I can show some discrepancies in first one!
Best Regards,
Pouria
I enjoyed the idea, the work, and the soal(your American personality who did all this-I’m sure). As for the Iranian personality,to be honest with the situation, should have operated her nose. Good luck! Enjoy your life whatever. American, Iranian, this, and that are all real but unessential waste of being we all bear. Good bye dear!
So nice i love your art i hope you have good days
Hi Nazanin,
WELL DONE!
u r highly creative. your work is AMAZING! I really enjoyed watching each photo, thanks. the first and sixth pictures portray the differences between your two selves nicely. especially in the sixth one your Iranian attitude towards pets is so vivid, your whole body even your toes are talking in this one.
Good Luck

these picturs are really wonderful. make me to think!!
Great photos. The one that touched me the most was the photo with the dog. The “you” on the chair looks so sad. Thanks for sharing with us and I wish you the best of luck with future projects.
I love your work – what a very creative and thoughtful project. Brava!
Dear Nazi- You depicted a very big paradox which is not as big as it is in reality . You have a very nice taste to manifest some hidden intentions and personalities . As you mentioned these are two different cultures and the gap betweeen them is very large ;however, goodness and being friendly has two different manifestations in two cultures that a person like you who is familiar enough with the two cultures can depict them .Please send me some more pictures like these to my mail if possible
The Photos and the Concept are great with no doubt.Cheers
